We use a mixed-frequency vector auto-regression (MF-VAR) model that has been previously applied to forecast the national economy, which we extend to also consider the state of Wisconsin.

The Impact of Income Tax Reductions in Wisconsin

12.19.18. Junjie Guo and Noah Williams. On June 30, 2013, Wisconsin Act 20, which reduced the state’s personal income tax rates for the first time since 1999 and eliminated a tax bracket, was signed into law. This reform was later followed by 2013 Wisconsin Act 145, which further reduced the marginal tax rate for the bottom income bracket.

The Economic Impact of a New Metallic Mine in Wisconsin

10.17.18. Noah Williams. In December 2017, Governor Walker signed into law a measure ending the effective mining moratorium in Wisconsin. The new law could usher in a new era of mineral mining in Wisconsin, which has substantial deposits of iron, copper, zinc, gold, and silver.

Evidence on the Effects of Minnesota’s Minimum Wage Increases

6.20.18. Noah Williams. Beginning in 2014, the state of Minnesota began a series of minimum wage increases. By contrast, Wisconsin increased its state minimum wage in 2010 to keep pace with the federal minimum wage, but has not increased it since.

Economic Performance in Wisconsin since the Great Recession: A County-Level Analysis
