On Monday, September 23, The Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy (CROWE), the Department of Economics, and Young Americans For Freedom hosted Casey Mulligan, a Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago, and former Chief Economist for the Council of Economic Advisers in the Trump Administration. Mulligan presented, “Economic Policies of the Trump Administration: Past & Prospective.” The Fireside Chat was facilitated by Ananth Seshadri, the Co-Director for CROWE.
Key discussion topics included;
- Oil Prices, Biden’s no drilling efforts, and the United States extraction of energy.
- Inflation, how fiscal policies affect it, and what differences Americans can expect to see between the Harris and Trump administrations when approaching it.
- The potential return to price controls, referencing Nixon’s wage and price freeze, Harris’ proposal to ban price gouging for food, and the effectiveness of price fixing.
- Short-term political issues of debt and deficits, alongside whether Trump might address the long-term debt problem or if action will be delayed until it’s unavoidable.
- Polarization of politics, the chaos of the Trump Administration, and Mulligan’s involvement in Trump’s late-night tweets regarding the economy.
The Fireside Chat was followed by a Q&A from the audience, facilitated by Young Americans for Freedom President Gaby Gerard.
Thank you for your continued interest and support of CROWE. We look forward to welcoming you at future events.
